Open Call Residency í Danmörku
ROOTS & ROUTES is a new four-year Danish/international residency program aimed at artists creating performing arts for children and young audiences, supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
The overall program is a collaboration between five organizations/venues: Teaterhuset Filuren, Aaben Dans, Teater Hund, Syddjurs Egnsteater, and ASSITEJ Denmark.
This cross-national collaboration between organizations with different artistic profiles will draw on diverse experiences and different networks to develop shared practices.
ROOTS & ROUTES’ four residencies take an exploratory approach to the following questions: How do we create pathways for new voices? Which concepts and understandings of artistic quality are at play? What view of children are we using as our lens here?
Deadlines: Application will close Thursday 15th of October 2026. And all artists will receive an answer on their application no later than November 15, 2026.
As part of the residency, we offer:

An artistic fee of 17.000 DKK for the entire stay

Travel and accommodation

Flight, trains, hostel and transport to/from the airport and stations.

Public transportation in Aarhus in relation to the residency’s program.

Breakfast and lunch will be included in the accommodation, and per diems if/when joint dinners are not a part of the program.

Listening Before Words – Creating Sensory Performance for Young Audiences
How do we create performances for children and young audiences when we don’t begin with words, a script, or even a clear idea of what we want to say?
In this online talk and workshop, Helga Arnalds invites participants to explore sensory and embodied approaches to artistic creation.

Helga Arnalds is an Icelandic theatre maker, director and visual artist, and the artistic director of 10 Fingers. Her work explores visual and wordless performance, material-based creation and embodied approaches to the creative process. Drawing on more than thirty years of creating visual and wordless theatre, Helga will share approaches developed through her work with 10 Fingers, an evolving collaborative artistic practice that brings together different artists for each project. Taking the wordless performance LIFE – a Mudpie, created with soil for children and families, as a starting point, Helga explores listening — to materials, the body, collaborators, the work itself and the young spectator.
How can sensory and embodied experience become a starting point for artistic creation? And what changes when we shift our attention from what we want to tell children towards what we want to make possible for them to experience? The talk draws on Helga’s practice of Listening to the Material and her research into embodied thinking, Focusing and the felt sense — a form of bodily knowing that can be present before we have words for it.
At its heart is a question: What does it mean to trust the child as a spectator — to create space for young audiences to sense, imagine and make meaning for themselves? The session concludes with a short guided Focusing experience, inviting participants to move from talking about listening to experiencing it for themselves.

UNGI 2026 fór fram dagana 23. - 26. apríl.
Hátíðin var einstaklega glæsileg að þessu sinni og voru 3 erlendar sýningar á hátíðinni auk 7 íslenskra sýninga.
Hátíðin var að þessu sinni með sterka norræna/baltneska nærveru og eru tvær erlendu sýningarnar þaðan.
UNGI var einnig með málstofu um sviðslistamenntun á Íslandi og bauð upp á vinnustofur fyrir ungmenni frá Nærrænu/Baltnesku löndunum og vinnustofu um sögumanninn og sviðið í samvinnu við tengslanet smáþjóða innan Assitej. Þetta tókst afar vel.
Fjöldi barna kom á sýningarnar á UNGA og einnig var fjöldi erlendra gesta. Um það bil 2.200 komu á sýningarnar þrátt fyrir að takmarkaður fjöldi hafi verið á ungbarnasýningar sem voru þrjár að þessu sinni.

ASSITEJ á Íslandi eru landssamtök Assitej International sem eru alþjóðleg samtök sviðslistafólks sem gera sviðslistir fyrir börn.

Samtökin beita sér fyrir samstarfi og samskiptum sviðslistafólks og leikhúsa innanlands sem utan og stuðla þannig að listrænni þróun barnaleikhúss.
Samtökin hafa verið starfrækt allt frá árinu 1990 og hefur haft það að markmiði að standa vörð um leikhús fyrir börn með því m.a. að efla samskipti sviðslistafólks sem starfar á þessum vettvangi á Íslandi og hvetja það til alþjóðlegs samstarfs.
Íslandsdeild samtakanna hefur m.a. staðið fyrir alþjóðlegum vinnusmiðjum, tekið þátt í norrænu samstarfi, sent fulltrúa á námskeið og vinnusmiðjur og hefur haft milligöngu um val á íslenskum sýningum á erlendar sviðslistahátíðir.
Kjarni starfseminnar hérlendis frá árinu 2013 hefur verið UNGI alþjóðleg sviðslistahátíð fyrir börn sem er haldin annað hvort ár. Hátíðin er sjálfstæð en haldin samhliða og í góðu samstarfi við Barnamenningarhátíð í Reykjavík. Hátíðin hefur markað sér sess í menningarlífi borgarinnar.
